Realizing the Philosophy of Fasting.

The blessed month of Ramadan is going on and every Muslim has a desire to get some benefit out of it. It is a blessed month with the philosophy of making someone who fasts become more pious. In addition, create a sense and feeling for all those who are deprived of all these luxurious foods and grandiose drinks that we take for granted. There are many who have a meal today but still have fear weather they will be able to get the next one or not, and there are many who have no other choice than drinking mud water as clean water is not available. At the time when we have strong hunger pangs and feel like all the water inside our body has vanished, we  feel for those not so fortunate people and at that time we realise how blessed we are. What’s in a word..?

The old phrases “sticks and stones…” and “what’s in a name?” has never been more relevant than in the current debate about the use of the “Y-Word” at football grounds.

OK, let me declare a couple of interests right up front. I’m a West Ham season ticket holder and I’m Jewish.

The two are not mutually exclusive, nor do they seem particularly connected. However, the current media and public debate about David and Ivor Baddiel’s short film – “The Y-Word” is focusing the minds of many football fans and members of the Jewish community.

Frank Lampard, Ledley King and Kieran Gibbs appear in a new film launched today (14 April) aimed at tackling anti-Semitism and anti-Jewish abuse in football.

The film, entitled The Y-Word, has been written and produced by David and Ivor Baddiel, in conjunction with Kick It Out, football’s equality and inclusion campaign, Maccabi GB, Community Security Trust, The Shoresh Foundation and Fahrenheit Films. (more…)
